Can anyone suggest a good shop in the Mystic CT area? I'm going to be there for a weekend and would like to do a charter or some shore diving. Thanks
Dave

Hm, I was going to ask the same question as I'm going to be in the area in a few weeks. I've got family obligations, so I was hoping to find a DM to take me on a couple quick shore dives.

Well,

There are not too many options...but here are some I know have 'Regular' 'Complete' service...
www.diverscove.com
Avies and Ski or something like that on Westerly, RI
seaview scuba in New London, CT

As far as boat charter...I have no experience with this but here it goes...
www.atlantis.nu

The above mentioned shop offer also charter boats ...

If you let me know in advance I might be able to show you Stonington or Fort Wetherill...

Acyually I'de drive out to Jamestown RI and visit Ocean State Scuba andgo on a free fun dive every Sat and Sun at 10 am.

Crisis-

Those are them (OSS) I can concur, they are a really good dive shop, and the "fun dives" are really good as well. But it all depends on what you are looking for...I think you'll be satisfied with the diving in Cape Ann far more, though, if that is was your countdown is for.

While we're swapping information: what are the good dive shops/charters in DE? I am going to be there in a couple of weeks. I know of the Surface Interval and Ocean City Divers....what about local shore diving, dive shops, etc?

I plan on diving in Cape Ann for about a week, but the wife wants to spend the 2nd weekend of our vacation near Mystic-hence the interest in getting in a couple of dives there.

As for local dive shops, I would point you towards Dudas' (www.dudasdiving.com) They are, in my opinion, by far the nicest and most responsive in the area. They seem to care about customers. They run a lot of weekend trips out of NJ. There are other shops in Northern DE, but it is hit and miss. (a lot of LDS attitude....) If you have to go to a N DE shop there is Salty Dog. (http://www.saltydogdivecenter.com) Try and deal with Cavu or Scott. Nice guys... I really don't have any experience in "down state" scuba ops
As I am in the northern part of DE, it is easier to get to NJ dive boats. I haven't gone out on the SI (http://www.surfaceinterval.net) but have heard good things about them. I have hear good stuff about O.C. Diver too. (http://www.ocdiver.com/) I wish I could give you better info, but my buddies and I generally have to satisfy our reguar dives to shore jaunts around the head of the Chesapeake or maybe NJ shore dives. If you get to Jersey look at NJSuba.net. (http://njscuba.net/sites/chart_nj_coast.html) If you need any GPS coordinates for shore stuff there I can probably help you out.

Then stonington point is your best bet near mystic after 5pm or before 8 or 9 am. If you are around when Im available I may hook up and do a shallow dive in a certain spot I like in RI. I finish summer school next week and will have 3 weeks off until september.
