My first experience with scubaboard and first posting! We'll be cruising Italy/Greek Islands (Livorno, Naples, Santorini, Mykonos, Athens, Katakolon, Corfu) in June, 2005, and want to dive once. We are recreational certified OW divers. Any experience with and/or recommendations for a dive shop? Thanks! MLRH

welcome to the board. You may want to try the geography specific threads. good luck and good diving.

Hello MLRH,

have a look at our General Europe forum.

Laurens

BTW, welcome (Scub)aBoard! happywave

I can't tell you anything about Greece except they make a great Pastitsio (baked macaroni with beef, and bechamel sauce)

Welcome to ScubaBoard :D

Hi there! I want to join the others in welcoming you to SB.com!

Sounds like a fun trip! I don't care for crusing, but if you get a lot of port time - great sites to visit. And I'd want to dive every morning if I could, then sight see in the afternoons, or map before the casino.

I think you can expect to use DIN valve regs, SPGs based on bars, weights in Kilograms, perhaps tanks other than the 80AL, and maybe more "over there" differences. Be prepared to learn all that.

We have a number of members from those countries. Hope you can connect with some of them for some direct advise, or maybe you'll want to post questions in the Europe forum mentioned above.

Hey there,

Not sure if you'll be off on the trip or not yet, but you might still have web access, so might be able to help a little. I'm just back from Paxos, which is a small island not too far from Corfu (it's an hour's hydrofoil from the port on Corfu beside the airport to the main port in Paxos.. it'd be less if you're sailing into the north of Paxos).

We were in the village of Lakka right on the north of Paxos which is popular with sailing holidays and also has a small dive shop called Oasi-sub. It's run by Paul and Petra and we had an excellent few dives. There's a number of dives on the West of the island, mostly large caves, but a few others too. It was our first experience of diving in the Med and also of cave diving, but would definitely recommend the diving and going with Oasi-sub. Saw some good sea-life (octopus, hermit crabs, scorpion fish, morays, shrimp) and some good caves too.

Paxos is a little smaller and quieter than Corfu so, if you're lucky, you can get a more personal service there. We went out for two days and it was just the three of us plus Paul, which was excellent for us. As it wasn't a full on diving holiday, we didn't take our own gear but rented there and the stuff was grand... all pretty new, think it was mostly Oceanic, and in good condition.

Hope this helps and enjoy the sailing and the diving

Gareth
