Dear Santa,
Dr. Billy has been a very good boy this year. Of course none of the lovely ladies on SB or elsewhere have given him an opportunity to be anything else. He has done about 300 dives this year, braving cold water and poor visibility, to write another 52 newspaper columns and produce another two or three dozen cable TV episodes of his highly informative "Dive Dry with Dr. Bill" show. Since he does all these things out of the goodness of his heart to bring understanding, joy and peace between humans and the critters of the briny deep, he is hoping you will be especially good to him this year as a reward. Here is the Christmas list he handed me:
1. A new set of doubles with manifold or a CC rebreather so he can explore and film at deeper depths and do it longer
2. A new 7mm wetsuit so he is warm and toasty and can stay down longer... his old ones are torn and tattered.
3. A new set of DIN regs for the set of doubles you are bringing him.
4. A new video editing computer to replace his aging P4 1.6 MHz. It should have a dual or quad core processor and 1-2 terrabytes of hard disk space to edit and store all the video he will take this year with...
5. A new HD camcorder and housing to improve the quality of his TV show, DVD's and the stills he captures from them to illustrate his newspaper column.
6. A 42-50" HD plasma or LCD flat screen so I can review all the video I shoot.
7. An 11 1/2 month around-the-world all-expenses paid SCUBA diving trip so he can film a wealth of new footage for his TV shows. Itinerary should definitely include South America (Galapagos, Venezuela, Chilean kelp forests, Abrolhas, Fernando de Noronha), Africa (Red Sea, Canary or Cape Verde Islands, South African kelp forests, East Africa), a return to Australia (Coral Sea, Ningaloo Reef and kelp forests of southern Australia), a return to SE Asia (Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam), and a return to Europe (preferably the Greek Islands). I can make this more reasonable for you to provide if you furnish your sleigh and eight tiny reindeer and a driver which will save all that airfare and reduce global CO-2 and other emissions (except those from the reindeer).
8. An appropriate dive buddy of the female persuasion so I don't have to risk my life diving solo in all these new dive locations... or a bigger pony bottle if that is too much to ask.
9. Oh, and world peace
That's all I can think of! Thank you, Santa. Hope you enjoy the cookies I'll leave.
