In all of the dives I've done at Gilboa, I've never seen one of those paddle fish!

A lot of people said that when she was telling her story. It was a fairly small one, but the nose was obvious. What's more odd, is that it went after her hand. In fact, it scratched her finger up a little bit. I guess they eat algea or something?

In what area of the quarry did this take place?

We were at that last platform. I think she was to the right of the platform (50 yards maybe) into the underwater trees. She probably knows better than I do though. I'll ask her.

DD,

Yep -- I know it was Scott....

Amazing that those guys made that drive for the class. Having done it myself several times (I went to UM for grad school).....that stretch through Canada east of Windsor is pretty damn boring......;-)

Both Brandon and Scott were taking furious notes during the class -- it would be interesting to hear what is required to become a GUE instructor.

Glad she had a good class. We enjoyed diving with you. We had to take you out and show you some of the spots that are sometimes spared the destruction of the tillers. I hope we see a trend in this type of training. I have had instructors contact me with question after reading some of the stuff I have posted about my classes. I work pretty hard to watch and learn from the few good instructors I come accross. Instructors teach as they were taught. Once more of them are exposed to better diving maybe they will learn and pass it on.

We usually find paddle fish fairly shallow. Most often on the walls toward the back of the quarry. It might be easiest to spot them from the surface. I usually don't go looking for them because if you don't see them you don't see anything on a dive like that. There is a bunch at Frace Park (some 7-8 feet long) and we see them mostly in the fall and winter when the vis is better.

You guys make me wish I lived up that way sometimes. Sounds like you had a great time.

Lost Yooper once bubbled...
It was long in coming, but my wife, Christi, finally got certified.
Why does the name "Lost Yoopette" keep running throught my mind? :)

WreckWriter,
I'll trade. I would really enjoy Florida. In the mean time think about some of those Lake superior wrecks. Good stuff.

I do think about them, more often than is good for me.

We have a spot or two open for the 15th at Whitefish. If the weather allows the plan is to dive the Mathers. I hear this is one of the premier wooden wrecks in the world. If the weather fails us there are some good backups.
