We did the Dive with the Sharks yesterday, and honestly both of us had fun. I started getting cold at the end, but we were down for about 50 minutes. I posted my account here: http://michelle.ogre.com/index.php/2007/08/11/diving-with-the-sharks/ and even though we couldn't use the external strobe on the camera, it was completely worth bringing the camera just for the few pictures we got which turned out well.

I did this dive in May for my 50th birthday! A truely memorable experience.

The hole in the wall, from my understanding, is the feeding area. Did you find any teeth in there?

I posted a comment there.

Cool blog post!

Thanks for the info. This is one of the better non commercial posts about the aquarium I have seen.

I thought I had found a tooth, and brought it up with me, but it turns out it was just a small shell that kind of looked like a shark tooth. :)

Shucks, cool dive and a GREAT report!

One of the sharks came charging to the trench, the DM fended it off with the pvc pipe. Pretty cool having sand tigers crusing within one arms length away!

Are you talking about the large oval hole in the back wall?

If so, this used to be the surge generator for the exhibit. There was a large piston driven by a contraption that looked like an oil well pump (see-saw) that would push the piston up and down, causing surge in the exhibit.

The sharks didn't like it, so it was disassembled years ago. They do have a large-volume pump in there that blows water in towards the reef that's in the center of the exhibit.

I've never seen anything but small fish in there.

The easiest pace to find teeth is in the trough that runs along the back. The pattern that the Sand tigers swim plus the blue bottom makes the teeth easy to find.

The sharks are pole-fed against the back wall (next to the skimmer), above the trough as well.

It was more on the side wall, and wasn't just a hole, per se, you could look up and there was a huge hole leading up. Maybe it's used for feeding now too, I have no idea.

I did look for shark teeth in the back trench and didn't find any, oh well.

And Marvel, thanks!
