Just thought I would share some fatherly pride with you.

My Daughter was at the pool today with her mother and I just had a call from her mother to tell me how much she took to the water. At 18 months she is happy in the water, even when she slipped and went under the surface she was calm and happy.

And the best bit....she likes to blow bubbles. When PADI going to start a Scubababies cert ? :)

Maybe the best buddies are the ones you raise yourself

That's really neat..... does she wear booties made of neoprene? Does her pacifier say U.S Divers?

And most important... do her diapers have a "purge"?

Floaty Bum can be an issue, I may have to fit an Auto Dump......errr(no pun intended)

You have every right to be a proud papa. (Serious Thought) And I think that you have done a good thing. I am amazed at the adults that I know that don't "know how to swim". Parents that do not teach their children to swim do them a disservice. They don't need to be Mark Spitz, they just need to be able to function in water without panicking, because as we all know, panic is the worst thing you can do.

Here is the reason I posted though: If you are really into diving, and you think that you will stay with it for years, then you should get a picture of your daughter and make up your own little C-card for your daughter. Then years from now, when she gets into scuba, you can have some fun with the 18 month old C-card. She would have a reallt great conversation starter when she shows all of her C-cards! Just some silly thoughts.

Which Agency is she diving?
NAUI - Napping After Underwater Incursion
PADI - Pediatric Aquatic Diving Infant
(I know, those are lame, but it was an afterthought for the post)

Congrats on the amphibious child, Connor.
If you go for the c-card idea, here one how the ID pic could look like.
Wish I had baby pics like that of myself ... :)

congratulations.

The best buddies are the ones you raise yourself.
I'm training three. 6 and 4 yrs. and...

The littlest one, 10 mo's, actually wears a size 5 neoprene booty.

Thanks for the replies, its great to know she is likely to be comfortable in the water. I can't wait to hear her opinions on BP/Ws.

caveseeker, I like that pic, I may have to do something similar.

I was in St. Croix a few years ago doing an pool refresher with an instructor there, buy the name of Matt. When I asked this fellow (less than half my age at the time) how long he had been diving, he said "since I was 8." When asked for details, he told me that his dad was a State Policeman in Maine, and was a diver. As soon as old Matt was old enough to learn to equalize his ears, and clear his mask, he would dive with his dad, breathing on the octo and riding on the tank, holding on to the first stage, like it was a pony!!! I thought it sounding great. By the time I met him, he had his instructors rating and was a skipper on the dive boat as well, living the good life in St. Croix and sharing a house with his girlfriend who was managing one of the local nightclubs. Man to be young again!

If your baby is happy in the water at 18 months you are ahead of the game, we had the same good luck with our daugher, she became a competitive swimmer and life guard, and has done a resort dive, but has not taken a class yet to get her scuba cert. Son was less of a swimmer, but did take a scuba class, but never did the openwater portion. Sooner or later, I'll get them both certified and diving with me...

I am only 20 and have no kids, but I do have two nieces. I can't wait for them to get old enough for me to certify them. I love the idea of taking my nieces diving and backpacking and climbing and all of that. They are only 2 and 1 years old but give me a few more years and I'll have them diving. :) Congrats!
