My backplate tends to dig in my lower back on land. In the water it's fine. I didn't bother to try to readjust the harness yet. Is this just caused by the straps being a bit too loose, or should I go for the lumbar pad to help with this? This was my first set of dives with my new rig.

Adjust your harness first. If the problem persists you may benefit from a flatter plate. Pads are not the answer.

i agree... play with your harness to see if it makes a difference

on my first few dives with a plate, the plate was digging into my left side... made the shoulder strap a bit shorter and the problem went away

goodluck and cheers

sweet, sounds good. Just wanted an overall opinion from others with more experience. I'd sure like to not spend anymore moola than I have to. I'll get to adjusting and see how things pan out.

Thanks all.

Adjust your harness straps. This usally requires a buddy for visual...it's a pain but necessary.

I'll adjust it next time I'm out.

I got the Dive Rite SS BP and Rec Wing. Dives pretty nice, but on the surface at times it can be a little annoying. Welcome back! How was vacation? It would be cool to meet up again for a Folsom Lake dive or something local.

Jason, why do you say on the surface sometimes it can be annoying??? whats happening?

cheers

You got a nice plate :)

No one has asked yet so I will...How tall are you? My gal is 5 foot and would not be able to use a regular plate. In fact she has a completely custom plate because even when properly adjusted her already small plate was still hitting her down low. The lower edge was already rolled, she just has a really short torso.

Try adjusting it first. Many of us wear ours with no wetsuits or drysuits and are perfectly comfortable. Of course that would be in warmer climates than brrrr...here.
