Great question but I think an answer for each dive mission (rather than establishing a blanket “policy”) is really one that can only be answered with an objective assessment of conditions - individual fitness, hydration, UW conditions, SI, types of gases, mission tasks (workload), sea state, topside exposure, etc.

Good luck in your tailored planning and decision making.

I've done two 2hr dives each day at Bikini with a 4hr surface interval. That goes for 7 days with a single dive day on day 4. I've done three 1-1.5hr dives with a 2-3hr surface interval on the Coolidge, but only for three days.

A consideration for me is to lower the GF high. You can happily run 85 for single deep dives, or the occasional double dive. Repetitive deep dives, give thought to lowering it, I run 75 on those trips. I keep an eye on gas density, keep the work-of-breathing within the gas density range and preferably at the lower end.

Hydration, stay off the booze, rest, there is a lot you can do to tilt the scales in your favour.
