Hi,

I'm looking to buy my first reg. My top priority is quality and something that will last a long time. I split my diving between the British Columbia and the tropics (Indonesia, Malaysia ect).

So what do you think?

A cold water reg will work just fine in warm water, just not vice versa. So one of the zillions of cold water threads will point you towards a good cold water regulator (such as the Scubapro MK17 and G250V second stage combo.)

Any regulator from the major manufacturers with a sealed first stage would fit the bill. It just depends on what your budget is, what brands are serviced in your area and personal preferences such as if you desire an adjustable second stage or not, etc...Ive used an Apeks DS4/ATX50 or ATX40 setup all over the world from the tropics in Australia to freezing quarries in Illinois with zero issues and it is my personal favorite all-around reg. The same could be said for regs from Oceanic, Aqualung, ScubaPro, Zeagle, etc...All make sealed first stage regulators that are extremely versatile, reliable and will last almost forever.

Apeks would be my recommendation. DS4/TX50. Simple, effective and tough. Aqua Lung Canada is in Victoria so getting parts and service is easy. If you're near Victoria you can come try mine out.

Hey,

I appreciate the offer. I'll look into it. Thanks.

PS. When is the best time to dive around BC? Any dive centers you recommend?

I have done all my diving in the last year around Victoria and it always seems to be good. Race Rocks is the best dive in our area and going up to Port Hardy is even better.

Anytime! I dive all year round. Ogden Point is good as it is right next to the breakwall. Wilson's is good and i've heard good things about Beyond the Deep. Depends on what you are looking for.
