I'm looking for some bottom topography info for Mt Storm. Specifically, how to find the old creek bed that leads to "the bottom" or deep spot. Trying to verify that it is actually at 130ffw.

Anything would help. Go to 90' platform and turn ??? Or maybe from the motorcycle, it's at compass heading??? Even just a compass heading and approximate distance from the entry would be good.

Thanks for you help!

Tom if you go down to the 90 and head straight out at 200-210 degrees you will find it. There may be a line going in that general direction but don't be surprised if it's half buried in silt. It did go out gradually (this past spring anyway) to the ridge at about 105 depending on the lake level. If you keep going on that heading it drops a bit more rapidly for a bit more. The deepest I've hit out there was 127 and that was 4 years ago. The last time I went past the ridge was with LoneWolf on a new years dive 3 years ago. We hit 119-120. Be advised we were trying to set a deep line for some Nav exercises and we had 39 inch stakes to set. He had his arm into the silt up to the shoulder and still did not find anything solid enough to set it in. It is light, fluffy, and easily stirred up. I have not been down since spring as I now only go there for advanced classes or some special occaision. Conditions may be a bit different but I'd bet the silt is still there. As for distance I never measured using other than time and kicks. For me that is about a 3 minute swim from the 90 and I go pretty slow. Always plan for some deco when I do it.

The last several times we tried to venture out that way, the visibility was measured in inches. We didn't get too far from the 90-foot platform because it was just too difficult. We had to stay in touch contact. Just trying to follow a compass bearing was nearly impossible because you had to hold the compass up to your mask.

Good luck, hope the conditions are better for you!
