The ocean was as flat as can be this morning in the Santa Monica Bay. Merry Passage, Kevin Lee and I headed north for a change of pace. We dived the Big Pipe and Elevated Pipe off El Segundo hoping to find some different animals than we usually find around Palos Verdes. When it comes to finding something different Merry hit the jackpot. Just as she was about to begin her ascent at the Big Pipe a five foot Great White shark swam slowly past before turning and heading toward her. Merry said she saw the toothy smile before it flicked it's tail and scrammed.

My camera was out of commission so I only shot topside photos with our point and shoot camera. The fires in the hills west of Malibu were still raging. The billowing smoke resembled an erupting volcano.

Redondo Beach was a lake as we exited King Harbor

Nice!!! But more likely Son of Landlord. At that size, they're likely juvies and probably fairly young ones at that.

Congrat.s! Of all the times I've debated whether I really 'wish' to see one in the water with me someday, not sure the idea of encountering a 'baby' ever occurred. Maybe that's the way to do it!

Richard.

They are fish eaters at that age. At least the ones in Florida are.

At that age they don't even have the serrated teeth yet. It would still be a thrill to see one underwater. I was even thinking last night that juveniles were spotted quite often in that area until this year. When Merry gave me the shark sign I knew right then what she saw.
