Moving Your Weights: Undercurrent 02/2005

This is a simple idea that never occurred to me before. I feel the need to shift my weights to the front to counterbalance the steel tank, but I never thought about putting the weight belt buckle off center like this to concentrate weight over the navel. Of course it probably works best with large solid weights (8+ lbs) and not so good with the 2lb pinch weights that I use.

What do you think?

I think that when I was still using a weight belt, it kinda did that on its own... I always ended the dive with the weights on my belly and the buckle on my back. It sucked. Which is why I now put the weights in the weight pockets of my BCD. Problem solved :D

Women, as the article points out, hate weights belt that are not set up like this. Use a long belt for proper ditching ability, and a weight keepers to make sure the weights don't jam the buckle and you have the added benefit of not having weights drop on toes as often too.
