Hi Everyone, I am moving to T.I. Fla. in August(8-09) from N.J. Now have to start seeking out places to drive there. I am sure there are tons of places, clubs, etc. But if you know of any locally to T.I., please let me know. I am hoping to do some spearfishing, along with just general diving. I do plan on getting my own boat within a year or so. (perhaps 20'), i have enough knowledge to run boats, etc. I also know there is a decent dive shop over on central ave. Anyway without going on and on, if you can let me know by post or pm.

Rick

Suncoast Dive Center is a small but very knowledgeable shop on Seminole Blvd.

Jim's Dive Shop on Bay Pines is a good, small shop that's been around a long time. Teresa, Wayne and Sheldon are great folks and very spearfishing oriented.

As far as places to dive, shore diving is limited to non-existant local to TI. You have to get in a boat and go and a ways offshore. As far as charters, Capt Ty (on the board here) is a great guy and he docks at the Lighthouse Point Marina, practically across the street from Jim's.

Jim's is good as well as Aquatic Obsessions on Central Ave and 62nd St N.

There used to be a Treasure Island Dive Shop on central just before Gulf Blvd but they've been gone for a while.

I'll second Capt. Ty.

Jim's is a nice shop. I bought some tanks and other stuff from them 10 years or so ago. I was just a walk in and they treated me like a long time customer. I never hear anything negative about them and wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again. Seek out Captain Ty and the Barbara Lee. In my opinion he runs the best dive op in the Tampa/St Pete area. Welcome to the GTBA form. :D :palmtree: Bob

Thank you everybody for the information, I have been waiting to make this move final for only 30years.(retired and wife is retiring in August) Looking forward to meeting and making new dive friends.
