Yep I've heard good things about St George and had good dealings with them but I have found Sydney Dive Academy to be excellent as well. We mainly deal with Frogdive (both shops) It really will depend on where you settle and where you are diving. Our group "Jellybean Rockers" is made up of people from several different shops. you might want to check these websites, Sydney Dive Academy - Home
Frog Dive Scuba Centres
I don't have a card from St George Underwater handy so you would have to search that one.
I have to admit my favourite dive site is Bare Island in Botany Bay. There are actually quite a few different dives there depending on the weather. Sydney Dive Academy is very close to this site.

I must restrain myself here! I am currently in withdrawl I haven't been able to dive for a couple weeks due to illness. I just can't drink enough water I get dehydrated if I don't soak in the ocean at least an hour a week.

Maybe since I've only been here going on 10 years I see the place differently. I keep think I will wake up and see that cold white stuff. I feel like I live in paradise here!:cheerleader:

Move to tassie
we're much better... it's really warm here too, you'll never need a drysuit!

Thanks for the input guys & girls, and sorry for misspelling Sydney, what a way to indear myself with my new potential neighbours lol. I did go to school really!
Dry suit or not, I really can't wait to get stuck into year round diving. Very excited.

Welcome to

Well I definitely wouldn't get rid of the dry suit, but as far as Sydney diving is concerned it all depends on how much you feel the cold.

I dive in a sharkskin in summer (~1 to 1.5 mm) and a 3mm in winter (when i dive) , a mate of mine dives in 5mm longjohns and a rash vest (no jacket) all year round. However having said that I am thinking more and more about the drysuit because once out of the water I tend to get cold.

I would say the majority of people dive in 5mm two piece year round, and quite a few (richies) have dry suits.

Water temps ... summer around 20-22 winter around 15- 16

I thought I'd drop in to say, "Hello and welcome to Oz!" I hope you can get up to Queensland and dive on the Great Barrier Reef at some stage!

16 degree water temperatures in winter ... jesus i'd love that
try 12 here at the moment

Lowest temp I have dived in is 13 ... in a 3mil and that was a little cool, guess i wont be diving tassie until global warming kicks in a bit more or I buy a drysuit.

Gary, the water temp off Sydney today is 18 degC and air temp is 21 - pretty cool but we are in the depths of winter! Suitable for a 5 mm westsuit but some sooks do ponce around in dry suits. Suggest you join a club ASAP and plenty of LDS to choose from. When I lived in Sydney, I belonged to the Ryde Underwater Club which runs its own boat - as do other clubs. Most have a website - so check them out before you makes yer choice and pays yer dues.

cheers

Col
