Since you were all so nice to me and not as testosterone laden as some posters on other forums, here goes;
I am going to buy my BP/W this winter... Sold.
Most boats around here require a redundant air source (no problem ! GOOD IDEA). I have been using a 30cf pony (air of course). My poor little diva has my steel 100 with a poney tamer and my bottle. You can imagine the sight I am !
Alright, now I will have a rock solid setup with my tank- I am now wondering what is the least awkward way to set up my tank (s). I am assuming the Single Wing... DO I "sling" the pony under my arm attached to the backplate the way the the big boys do (although they have stage bottles with 02, etc since they all have doubles). Do I still use a pony tamer ?
I know have to do then figure out how to compensate for the uneven weighting... (add more to the other side, put reel, etc to the other side...).
I would love to hear your ideas ! Thank you in advance.

You'll sling it from the left shoulder d ring and the hip d ring. There really isnt much of a difference in the water as far as weight is concerned.

Slinging it is best. One that small will still be out of the way but will be easily available.

I just switched to a bp/w and a 40 cuf al stage bottle this year. I sling my stage on the left side. With my st 95's I really did not noticed my trim to be changed. I was surprised, you don't really even notice the bottle is even there. Good luck with your new set up.

When deep I use a 30 cu ft deco bottle, but prefer to mount it on my primary tank, with Zeagle (of course) HD pony bands.

It has more ballast, so I remove a 2 lb weight on that side. That balances things out nicely.

Lately I also added a 6 cu ft bailout system with our Razor valve/1st stage. It's mounted inside the wing of my Stiletto and is so insignificant I don't notice it at all. I hope I never need to use it.

Wait for it :)

If you buy into the idea that your diving should be conducted in a team environment, you'll quickly find you've wasted your money on gear you really don't require. You'd be far better off investing some quality time with your buddy practicing skills and drills (which I know you do, from other posts) and that's all you'll ever need.

The problem is, even after you buy it and realize what a PITA hauling the junk around is, especially when you also realize you don't need it for straight forward, buddy oriented OW level dives, you'll still feel compelled to slug it around since you dumped the money into it.

It's pointless to say trust me, so I won't,.....but you should :) Again, in a team environment, it's an answer to a non existant problem.

If the boats you're falling off of want a redundant air supply, point to your buddy, the redundant one whom you've practiced with, trust, can swim towards you, think when you're having an off moment and do so much more than a metal cylinder can....

That might get you tossed off the boat by a decent capt. You either follow the boat's rules or you don't dive.

I mount my pony on my main tank and it is out of the way.

If that gets me tossed off, I am probably on an idiots boat and my initial screening failed.

On the other hand that has yet to happen either and I suggest to you that you can't name too many that would toss you for strtaight forward logic.

Let me guess, they're the same folks that encourage solo-diving, or worse yet want one to have a "same ocean" buddy.....

Those that can't understand that point are truly as clued about the buddy system as one can get, which really isn't a surprise as most people really are anyway.

I just don't feel the need to cater to the nonsense imposed by those that do not understand.

And I won't even begin to comment on the multitude of problems with your pony mounting. It's all surely been said before..........time to do a search I think (OP).

Nice speech, but it's as extraneous your pony. She HAS to have one, or doubles.

Maybe she doesn't "have" to have one. Maybe she thinks she does, OR she's has to change boat ops.

What I see here, correct me if I'm wrong, are straight forward recreational dives in every sense of the term. She said 'most' boats, not all.

I thought it was a rather well done post myself, thanks ;) All centered around ones belief of the buddy system completely. If that's not someone else's bag, they are welcome to leave it alone as the post was not meant for them :D

Purachasing equipment you don't need because someone ELSE wants you to have it is about as dumb as it gets, unless you're the one doing the selling! Good gig for some, I agree, but it's not a plausible reason.
