ok here is my dilema..... i am going for a DIR setup and i have an OMS phantom can light, all thats on the canister is just two o ring clamps with 2 bolt snaps to attach to backplate no mounting option for the waist band on the harness, how would i mount it to my right side of my harness??? and my other question is do the o ring clamps help seal the top and bottom of the can when tightened or is it just a mounting option!! i tried to make it sound as clear as possible:eyebrow:

What I have on my light is, two hose clamps holding down a piece of 2in webbing. Thats all you really need to be able to mount it to a harness.

Do you have a picture so I could be able to answer the rest of your question.

If you have two ring clamps on the canister that can be loosened, loosen them and take the boltsnaps off. Take an eight or nine inch length of 2" webbing and fold it in thirds. Put one ring clamp through the resulting webbing at the top fold, and the other at the bottom, and tighten them down. You now have a webbing loop through which you can pass your waist harness.

(Looking at a photograph I found, you do have pipe clamps on the canister, and should be able to remove those clips holding the boltsnaps. And no, the pipe clamps have nothing to do with the integrity of the canister.)

"OMS" and "DIR" are not compatible.

"OMS" and "crap" are compatible.

Any references to OMS should be moved from the "DIR" forum to the "Equipment Manufacturers that Suck" forum.

I couldn't have said it better myself. :D

I dunno . . . I have an OMS backplate which hasn't misbehaved yet :)

For the OP, I should comment that the OMS lights are meant to be connected directly to the holes along the edge of the backplate via the metal links on the canister.

Metal-to-metal connections such as this are no longer consdered safe and are no longer a standard practice.
