One of the really cool things about scuba diving is that you can set up your rig any way you want to. Sure there might be some configurations that are "not recommended" for various reasons, others that might be considered flat out dumb. That much being said there's no rules or laws and what might work for one person might not work for someone else. You like it? Then go for it.
My sister has her 4 hose first stage regulator configured so that it sticks up a couple of inches above the tank valve. Very few divers do it this way, for good reason. I've commented to her that since she likes to penetrate wrecks and stick her head under overhanging ledges that the hoses should be changed around so that the regulator first stage is pointing down rather than up. She was hesitant but agreed to let me switch things around, which I did- and it streamlined her rig considerably. After one or two dives she stated "I don't like it that way". Mainly because her extremely long fingernails get in the way when she's setting it up her gear. She can't even set her computer to Nitrox using the flat part of her fingers- she has to use the edges (because of her fingernails). She looks like some sort of retard whenever she configures her computer, but I digress. So I put it back the way she had it. Several divers (mostly DMs and crew) have commented about her seemingly ass backwards first stage setup but she's happy and that's all that matters.
