As for the quarry - went yesterday (Sat.) Vis was good - no one in the quarry when I first got there. Did not go past 25-30 feet all day. Temp at that depth was showing 72 deg but it seemed much colder. I could almost "see" another thermocline below that depth, but did not try to go down. I'm too much of a weenie - but I only had a 3 mil. Would have been better with a 5 or 7 mil

Shaun

thanks for posting the report.

Hopefully maybe I can make it out there next weekend....

Edit:

Saw a post on TDTDiveboard that Doc dove it today (sunday).

sounds cold on the bottom from his report. He said it was 57f
below the thermocline... BRRRRRRR.
He noted that he was wearing several layers of Neoprene

My son, his friend, and myself are going to try to find the Moulton Quarry this Saturday. Mike you met them at the Quarry a couple weeks ago. they may have to work so it all depends I guess. I would like to get couple more practice dives in before it gets too cold to dive locally. I am a weenie too with cold water.

Does anyone have the GPS coordinates for the quarry? It seems it might be hard to find given the directions I last read.

I would like directions. If someone would send them to me, I would appreciate it much. Also, how can I find out more info on this quarry? What are the fees?

Here's the directions I have.

1.) Take Hwy-24 going WEST until HWY-101
2.) Turn LEFT(South) on HWY-101
3.) Turn LEFT(East) on "Old AL-24"
4.) Turn RIGHT(South) on CR-55 (FYI, CR = Country Road) which is the first gravel road you come to on the right.... Right after a Phillips 66 or Texaco.
5.) Turn LEFT(EAST) on CR-102, again the first gravel road on the left
6.) Turn RIGHT through open gate into quarry property. (gravel road, go figure. There is no sign to indicate a dive op at the entrance FYI)

You can see the quarry in the pic on this map.
http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=34.451865,-87.386627&spn=0.033081,0.047782&t=h&hl=en

Zoom in some and unfortually you loose the overhead pic, but you
can see the roads and road numbers, and print out a map.

SteelSlinger... Besides the contact info that Sean (Flodiver) posted,
the fees are $15 entrance. They don't have much in the way of
facilities, so bring what you need, though I've heard you can rent
gear and get fills there.

Kevin told me they'd be open through October and maybe later, or
can meet people there if you have a group coming out. Saturday
they open at 9am and after church (12pm-1pm) on Sunday.

I was planning on going out this saturday, but I think a head cold/flu
is going to keep me from diving this weekend.

we'll be out there around 1pm today (sunday)

In a green chevy Tahoe or a green Nissan king cab p/u.

If anyone gets there before us, please be kind and turn
the pool heater on "high".

(whoops... just realized I replied to the wrong "moulton quarry" post)
