cobaltbabe once bubbled...
Granted got to love the little crotch rockets. Go like stink but then when the pipes are punched a harley has it's own benefits. ;)
Well if you like the sound/feel of a loud v-twin Harley, then you'll like my ride. All the handling and speed benefits of a crotch rocket, and the toque and sound of a Harley. Even the local hard-core Harley guys that I know all love the thumpy v-twin rumble coming out of these pipes..... heh heh :D

I don't know about street bikes but after every race the bikes were stripped down and the engines worked on. It is a life style that's for sure. I was lucky to have a father and friends that were part of the CSRA. I grew up with the father of speedway hanging with my family. I learned alot about tracks and the workings. I didn't have a choice. Everything from my favorite, Speedway, to motocross (my sister raced that as well as my brother), half mile, enduro, trials and the list goes on. My whole family rides.

Motorcross and speedway racing are pretty cool... but road racing has always been my drug of choice. I love watching it on TV, going to see them live (went to the superbike races at Mosport back in July), and get on the track myself when I get the chance. A lot of the riders in the road racing business started out doing flat track/speedway racing. You can always tell by how they back the bike into the corners and slide it out on the exit.... they just ride the hell out of those things...

Rules to live by. And don't forget your steel shoe!!!!!

I went around Shannonville raceway in a Farlan 500 when I was a kid. Scared the heck out of me. My dad helped build the flat track next door to it and unfortunately it hasn't been used enough and needs some work. Nice base for a flat track. It's a half mile though.

.....you have to go Desmo. You can't say the noise and look of a Ducati doesn't get a reaction.

Ok occasionally it sounds like a bag of hammers at low speed but at least people know you are there :)

The unmistakeable sound of a Duc.... Of course with the new Desmodecici GP bike and its two & four pulse ignition, that sound is more like a formula-1 car...

I rode a 2001 996R all tricked out with carbon rims & everything... very nice bike, great power... but for the price and what you get, I'll stick with my RC51.. ;)

I don't really want to start a Harley vs Riceburner war here as that can get uglier than the typical DIR/Non-DIR wars that go on here.

However I must rebutt one silly notion. Obviously neither Snuggle nor Drownedrat have ever owned a Harley. That silly Urban Legend about Maint is BS.

I rode a 85 Softtail for 17 years before I got my current RoadKing. The ONLY work (other than adding nice chrome & loader pipes) was regular replacement of all Fluids per the owners manual. Replace the battery every 5 years , Tires every 10k miles & chains every 25k miles. Sold it last year for more than I paid for it in '85.
Yeah, that's some heavy-duty maintenance...lol

There are still a lot of shovelheads (60's &70's) as well as Panheads (50's) & a few Knucleheads(40's) on the road today.
The only thing an old riceburner is good for is an artifical reef.

a bike rider is a bike rider. Just like a diver is a diver, just different degrees of knowledge and ability. I have sat and drank with Hells Angles as well as street riders and honestly both were great. As long as everyone realizes that its the love of the sport then all is good. Why do you think bikers wave to each other on the road? You don't see car owners doing that do you? For the most part they would give you the shirt off their back. Both groups of people (divers and bikers) have alot in common. We are both trying to avoid the idiots on the road and above the water that don't pay attention to what's around them. Drive/dive safe boys. :D

I've been lurking for awhile but had to post on this one... at least this is something I know about.

The WERA roadracing board is the end-all source of motorcycle and roadracing knowledge. I've roadraced for the last few years and have built some awesome friendships from meeting poeple in the sports 2 largest amauter racing orgs; CCS and WERA. We have all sorts of great discussions and some world famous racers on the WERA board.

Take it easy...

Don

Maybe one day, I will have one again, but I sold my Harley to buy my tech diving gear and course.

I can't carry dive gear on a motorcycle, so it wasn't doing me much good, anyways. :)
