Hi I'm looking for good motel in Key Largo. A place where I can snorkle from the beach and sleep, nothing fancy. Rest of the time I'll be diving.

Hi Mikl,

Since the reefs are 2 - 4 miles off shore, snorkelling from shore is going to be a bit difficult, but not impossible. Penekamp park is accessible for snorkelling, but there are no motels there. Where ever you go in Key Largo you will pay a premium price for a decent place to stay. Tavernier is cheaper and has some decent dive shops. Keys Motel runs bout 69 bux a night, Islamorada Motel runs about the same. both are in Tavernier / islamorada.

Check out Tavernier Dive Center. I've worked with these people for quite a while and they are World Class. Mike and Wendy are without a doubt the nicest dive shop owners I've met to date.

My personal experience has been with the Ramada/ Holiday Inn at the MM100 marina. As mentioned earlier, the reefs are located well off shore, so even a the hotels with beach, the snorkeling will probably disappoint. As the earlier post also mentioned, Pennekamp is the best bet for snorkeling from shore. The Ramada/ Holiday Inn are both decent hotels which are part of a complex that surrounds the marina with several dive operators located in the marina (we use Paradise Charters) They are both reasonable with the Holiday Inn slightly higher. (both have higher rates on Friday and Saturday) I personally like the Ramada a little better because all the rooms have balconies, frigs and free continental breakfast and you can use the Holiday Inn pool and spa facilities.

Watch the travel web sites for specials (orbitz, travelocity) as we were able to book the Ramada for only $45 a night for labor day weekend.

Stay at the Hungry Pelican in Key Largo right around MM 99 or 97. It's an awesome place. I went out diving with a boat and all, but the scenery and atmosphere of this place is so incredibly relaxing.

Try doing a search on ebay for the Ocean Point Resort. It's a very nice time share resort that rents out their suites when not in use.

Depending on the time of year, I've seen suites that can sleep 6 go for as cheap as $49 night!
