If you're staying on Piscadera Bay (Hilton, Marriott, Clarion, etc.) this might interest you. This is excerpted verbatim from a US inter-governmental agency bulletin:

The opposition parties MAN, NPA, and Pueblo Soberano have announced a peaceful protest demonstration on December 2, at 4:00pm in Otrabanda. The march will start at the Breedestraat and will end at the Brionplein. An opposition party’s protest against the constitutional accord and the current negotiation process between the Kingdom partners got out of hand on November 12 when riot police had to prevent the demonstrators from reaching the Marriott hotel lobby. The protestors blocked the road in front of the Marriott with rocks and cars and tried to start a bonfire.

hey slim....how close are these resorts to the airport? will it affect traffic going to the west end of the island? also, i have read your posts and understand you live there, what are the current water temps?
thanks,
e

Hato Airport is on the north coast. Piscadera Bay is on the south coast. It’s about 5 miles (8.4 km by my truck’s odo) between Hato and the Marriott by the most direct route.

To travel to the west from the airport (to Habitat, Sunset Waters, OE West, etc), the first 2 km is over the same road as that most direct route to Piscadera Bay. But at the big lizard round-about, you divert from that route and take Weg Naar Westpunt to the west. My hunch is that the risk of this shindig affecting traffic that far away is negligible.

All my diving this past weekend was on Bonaire, where my computer recorded a low temp of 81.7ºF. I haven’t dived on Curacao since 17 Nov, when I recorded a low temp of 83.1ºF. Absent a hurricane or a rogue iceberg, I’m hard pressed to believe the temps here have cooled by 1.4ºF in such a short period of time so I suspect the waters around Bonaire just had a head start on cooling off.

Barring illness or incarceration, I’ll be in the water again no later than this Saturday, after which I’ll post a water temperature update.

Thanks Slim for the info. Trying to pack my wetsuit selection, Lol.
Much appreciated.
E

I see folks diving all the time in full 2 and 3mm wet suits. All the wetsuit I have is a 2mm shortie. I was in the water a lot during my stay on Bonaire and I could tell it wouldn’t have to get much cooler before it would become a problem for me. Still undecided whether I'm going for long sleves or just a thicker shortie.

You should try a hood. You lose a lot of heat from your head.

I made two dives this morning and recorded a low temp of 82.4. That’s a bit warmer than what I saw on Bonaire last weekend and supports my belief that the water is just a bit cooler there.

It bears noting that the low temp was on the second dive, which started shortly before noon. During that dive there was a rain shower so fierce the drumming of the raindrops on the water sounded like a boat motor. My low temp on the earlier dive was 83.1.

Thans so much for all the info...Going to be on island on Feb 6th. Are you there for work or pleasure???

I moved here this past summer for the opportunity to woirk some place where I could dive whenever the mood struck. So far, it's working out pretty well.
