Have been to Terrell a couple of times, but going with our Scout troop to Athens first w/end in June. At one time I thought I read that Atens is pretty "sterile," and was wondering if there are any fish or other aquatic critters there now.

We'll be camping. I just read in another post about train tracks being close by. Other than that, how is the camping there?

The rest of our troop will be doing their open water, but my family is already certified so we'll just be there having fun (haven't dived in 2 years & just had our refresher/skills update). Any recommendations as to locations to check out? Almost 16 yr old son gets bored easily....

I have been to Athens twice in the last month teaching diving. There are very few fish in the lake as the water as high in alkaline, this also keeps down the plant life. You will want to keep your mask on in the water as the alkaline water will cause the mask to fog. The visibility is about 20 feet, which is good for a Texas lake. There is a lot to see as they have put planes, buses and other things in the water. The lake is small, but large enough to do a some diving. It is also shallow about 30 feet in the deepest part.

You heard correct about the trains coming through at night and blowing their horn, but that is part of this park. If your going to camp with a large group and be close to the bathrooms and showers, then stay near the parking lot right after you pass through the gate.

Need anymore help just ask.
