I have not tried the battery out / shake method yet, but I did call Oly and they said send it in. The good/bad news is that they said it would probably be covered under warranty. I wonder how much they'll try to charge me this time :D. I'll probably do the shake thing before I send it to the O house.

Below are some pictures of something interesting I found with this problem. The fuzz is more "in focus" at the high end of the aperture settings. This leads me to believe the fuzz is on the lens not the sensor. I probably never noticed the fuzz underwater because I use lower aperture settings.

I did the battery out and shake method today to no success. I guess after Saturday's dive I'll be sending my baby to the nice people at California Oly House. I hope I'll have good things to post about how wonderful it is to deal with them - it would be very refreshing.

That's interesting, Yoda. Would also explain why you haven't noticed it until now. Good luck with your Oly dealings. FWIW, every one of my experiences with their repair department has been very positive. Now their phone customer service is something else!

My guess is that it's on the lens because it shows up at higher apertures. Higher apertures (8.0) have longer depth of field, maybe enough to pick up the stain. At lower aperture the DOF is so narrow that it blends in with the out of focus foreground and background. Just my guess.

For example if you were to shoot a subject that is on the other side of a wire mesh fence, you can open up your aperture to 1.8, focus on the subject and like magic the wire fence disappears.

ya know...if it would have worked with the shake method...if could just as easily fallen back on the lens.

Good luck with oly!!

It would have to fall back in a better place than smack in the middle .
