I am starting to plan a trip to Moorea in late February (leaving the cold of Minnesota), but just learned that it will be the rainy season, and dive visibility is not as good as the dry season? I wondered why there were some discounts on flights and hotels. If you have had experience vacationing and diving there in the "rainy" season, please give me some input. Thanks.

I was there for 3 weeks in Feb of 2004. No rain at all until the last week in Huihine when I was so glad for the cool relief! It was just passing showers. They don't get out of the water or stay out of the water during rain in the Tahitian islands. You're wet anyway...

Hi: I dove in Tahiti 2 years ago in Feb. We had great dives and great visibility until the last day when it rained all day. But generally the rain systems pass quickly across French Polynesia, and the rain usually feels great because it is pretty warm that time of year. I don't think that you will have much to worry about. You might consider doing half your stay on Moorea and the other half on Rangiroa - much better diving and it is an atoll, (not a volcanic island with high mountains), so the visibility isn't as effected by rain. It used to be much more expensive than Moorea but now there are a couple of new properties that are pretty reasonable.....so the pricing is really good.

If you don't find anything great in Tahiti you might consider Fiji......I have a group departure over the Presidents holiday Feb. 16-25, that still needs a couple of divers to fill the group. It is to the island of Kadavu, (the 3rd largest barrier reef in the world - amazing diving!), a really great beachfront resort called Papageno. Just email me if you are interested; mjaugustine2000@yahoo.com.

Hope you have a great time.
