Has anyone been to Montserrat?? How do you get there? I would probably be flying out of RDU (Raleigh NC).

Where do the planes go....intermediate stops....so on.

Any recommendations for places to stay??

Thanks.....rich

We travelled there quite a long time ago. The flights went through Antigua. It was a short hop from there.

I can't recommend any spots to stay. The place we rented was destroyed by the volcano.

Thanks Ted...

I have managed to be a little more successul with some searchs since posting this....but still no DETAIL.

I have found out...like you said....US Air goes to Antigua. From Antigua I have seen a chopper ride...the would kill the pocket book, and, a "high speed luxury" ferry. But no mention of schedule or costs.

The air schedule I just saw would have me leaving RDU about 0700 and hitting Antiguq about 1430 (2;30PM) the same day. But as I said....no clue on Ferry schedule.

Thanks....

Have you tried Winward Island Airways http://www.newconcepts.ca/winair.htm

Their website states that they have daily flights between St. Maarten and Montserrat. I looks like the flight goes through Antigua. Cost is $295. The stated cost for Antigua to Montserrat is $173.

Good luck. As I recall, the approach into Montserrat was............ interesting. You fly toward a cliff and turn left into the airport. This is because of the offshore winds.

I go thru there every couple of weeks or so. It's a street that come up from waikiki beach to diamond head....lol :05:

I'm trying to find out some things as well on Montserrat. I have researched a little and you, I think, have to fly into either St. Maarten or Antigua- then take a smaller flight into Montserrat.

I would rather do the ferry than fly any day....still checking that out

Lisa.......i thought it was a right at kookamonga !! Found someone that wants to dive when I get to Oahu....want to join us???

I dove Antigua last year with Ultramarine out of the ST. James Club. They were awiting delivery of a new dive boat that would let them take divers as far as Monserrat. You could contact them at: ultramarine@actol.net and see if this ever happened.

Well if i'm not mistaken BWIA or LIAT fly to Montserrat.
The island itself is recovering from devastating volcanic eruptions with lots of ash that destroyed and buried the capital Plymouth.

This was back in 1997, haven't heard about any more eruptions since then.
The island and its people are on the mend :).
