Hi everyone, I need new fins. The S Tek from scubapro were recommended to me in a dive shop. Apparently the main positive points for me about them is also what sets them apart from all other fins on the market.

The modularity, meaning it can be taken apart for traveling (or if needed blades and foot pockets can be swapped around).

Another modular feature is the weight plate on the blades, allowing to either make them positively or negatively buoyant.

I didn't want to buy them straight away because of their high pricing, but from further research online i've found no other options that have the same features? Is there really no other modular fins out there, or rather why are there no other such fins out there?

I get that the attachment point between the blade and foot pocket can be a potential point of failure, they seemed robust to me in the shop though. Transport of fins when traveling seems an obvious point to consider for anyone, but also the buoyancy / trim control make the fins much more versatile.

Thanks

S tek, super nova and tusa switch all come apart only the S does the weights, I have all of these and the S is my least favorite, Tusa tri force are pretty close to perfect but I like the super nova over all. The various retention system has not shown itself to have any issue on any of these.

Potentially when, failure how, if you found them robust then they're robust

I use fins for diving not travelling so the last time I flew with fins I had them in a bag in which the fins fit

I dive many different fins, the fins don't dive me, so be versatile and get your centre of gravity right instead

I agree, the risk of failure is nothing i'm personally worried about in this case. So if there's only benefits and no downsides why bother with extra bags. Of course my perspective is that my current fins are broken and i have all options open.

My main motivation to get versatile fins is that i won't need many fins but only one pair instead.

Thanks for this, i didn't know about the tusa. But they're not available in bali, same price as scubapro and with scubapro foot pocket i have the option to switch between supernova or s tek for cheaper in any case..

Can i ask why you prefer supernova over s tek?

I think the preference is mostly the locking system in the SP, it comes with a tool but you can easily pop the locks out with just about anything, tusa uses an Allen screw, very secure but would be better if it used a common size like the port plugs that almost every diver has with them. The Tusa has great performance and I can buy them for less in the U.S. but if not available it not an option.

Super nova over S tek for me most of the time but some like the S better, I can switch between them and get by either way, all 3 are excellent.
