Just got a new case for my canon s 90 and in order to put the camera in the case I had to push the mode control rod upwards...I tried to just move it ever so slightly ,but I moved it alot---My question---Have I screwed up ? i.e. will this cause it to leak?

It's normal to slide that up and down, to allow you to insert the camera. You are fine, no worries. You need to push it down to contact the mode dial again, to allow it to work.

It's a good idea to practice working all the controls, and memorize which is which, so you can do it underwater without stress. Take a few pictures, wide, tele, macro, try to set aperture and shutter, figure out how everything works and have it clear in your mind. There is one trick: To simulate the rear dial, push the S button with your left thumb, while pressing the left or right arrow buttons.
