Well, the insights are at least new to me: The well known sardines are not just sardines (but there are several species of them!), but also jackfish. My friend, fish biologist Prof. Kent Carpenter, explains which species are present. Also: likely human run-off brought the fish there in first place, but now the school on its own draws more fish in (positive feedback) hence maintaining a school at this place.

Also, it's worth reiterating that this aggregation is not a "sardine run" since the fish are stationary.
