Hello Everyone,

I live in St. Louis and traveling to Destin, FL the first week in August.

Does anyone have any good charter they would recommend? I love to see wrecks but I am not wreck certified.

How far off Destin is the Oriskany? Would that be possible or would I have to drive to Pensacola?

Also, is there any military friendly ones out there?

Thanks for any assistance you may provide.

John

I have gone to Gulf Shores, Al. I dove on a navy tug at about 80 ft. The first 12-20 ft was pitch black with sea weed but after that it broke wide open and was clear as a bell and bright. They said it was just because that was the time of year (early June) that we had encountered so much. The shop I went through was Diver Down in Orange County, Alabama. Hope this helps!

You can get to the Oriskany from Destin, but its a hellovalot longer trip and you'd be hard pressed to find a trip heading that way... You could probably rent a whole boat out and get it done. It'd be cheaper and easier to just go from Pensacola.

If you want to dive some of Destin's closer divesites, I'd recommend ScubaTech.

also(tho not positive) that most shops have a minimum dive logged limit to which they will take you out to the O. heard it was around 20~ dives. dont take my complete word as im not positive. call the shop and go from there. ive dove with mbt and dive pros out of pensacola and enjoyed all dives with both.

Anyone who enforces that will offer a "guide" if you still want to dive it I think. Course, it will cost a bit extra.
