I have a MK25T S600T but also recently also purchased an Atomic B2 (1st n 2nd stage).
While its a great breathing reg, I can't get over how heavy it is (compared with my Titanium MK25T).
Do you reckon I would get the same quality breathing (as the B2 1st n 2nd) IF I swapped by B2 2nd stage on to my MK25?

Sorry if it seems inane. Thanks!

Yes to both.
Mixing and matching 1st and 2nd stags is very common.
The Scubapro and Atomic regulators are very similar (share a common history) and have a very similar performance.

Since both 2nds are balanced you wont even have to match Intermediate pressures (although I bet they'll be very close anyway)

....can I have the one left over?

...the main problem when you mix brands is servicing......unless you have a dive shop handy that services both SP and Atomic. ...but here's what I'm seeing...reg has a problem, you take it to SP dealer, he blames that Atomic 2nd stage and sends you to the Atomic guy.....then the Atomic guy looks at it, blames the problem on the SP 1st stage, and sends you back to the SP dealer...get the picture ?

...gotta ask why you are wanting to ditch the SP 2nd stage anyway ?

Do you want to sell that S600? I am looking for just the second stage reg.

Yes you can mix and match. Just make sure the first stage IP is what the second stage manufacturer calls for. The range should be pretty broad though, and I would recommend checking IP pressure yourself every dive day.

Congratulations, you've spent more on two regs than I would on at least 10, including 2 doublehose regs.

What you want to do will work fine, there is the servicing issue, but other than that no problem. What's wrong with a little weight on the 1st stage though? You're diving with weight, and having a pound up high on the tank is probably good for your trim. If you ever use nitrox, the titanium 1st stage is not ideal. You'd almost certainly not have a O2/Ti problem, but if you did it would really suck.

I have to agree with Matt. More weight in equipment equals less weight in pouches and on belts. Titanium in a regulator is a marketing thing. I have regulators from the 50's that are plain old chrome plated brass and they last forever if you rinse them. Still, you can do whatever you want man, just make sure IP is in specification. I would also use a magnahelic and check the second stage's cracking pressure once you change first stages out. An understanding of the second stage's case geometry fault would help as well. I guess the short version is to tune the first and second stage to the second stage's factory specs and adjust from there.:crafty:
