DA Aquamaster:
I misread your post slightly and missed that you had a Mk 25T.

The Mk 25T is not on the approved list for use with Nitrox. It is the spendiest reg in the line and has a lot of snob appeal but it is in reality about the least capable Mk 20/25 ever made. ...
QUOTE]

Your quite right - personally would never have bought MK25T myself and would never have used it for cave diving. I have to admit I don't get having a light first stage esp. when its attached to a steel tank...oh I know some people spout the benefits of lighter regs for travel but do those few ounces really make a difference. Just leave something extra out of your make-up bag .<bg>

I dream about owning Atomic regs - first I have to get rid of the 3 Mares abyss, 2 V16 Epos, 2 beuchats, and a legend....(I do like the legend though and the Mares abyss performed well ...just a little jaw fatigue after 2 hours!)

As to using the the MK25T with nitrox...just shows how little attention I gave the manual. Basic thought process..."great- a new reg, lets go dive!"

Got rust on my Mk20 too : it seems that it comes from out of silicone at the swivel and 5 ports O'ring. But you need to disassemble the whole thing

Yeah wel if you think back to every time you turn your head you are moving the turret even a little. That is why it is important to consider yearly service and make sure that it is done right.

I agree with WarmWaterDiver.

Scubakevdm:
Let me know if you want to get rid of that whistely old Mk25/x650.

As it so happens things have changed and I am now going to sell it to buy another Atomic. PM or e-mail me if you (or anyone else) are interested. BTW- the whistling stopped for some reason with no service intervention. Go figure!

Terry,
This could be a solution to your problem, but as for the whistling I think that it is to do with the tech. He did such a good job cleaning it that he took off all the lubrication (nothing wrong with that) but he forgot to add enough afterwards. Don't get me wrong the Atomics is a great reg of the same desing as the Scubapro (thus they are easily compared to one another) but it doesn't mean the same thing can happen there too. As for the original rust problem,I don't see it in an atomics as they are sealed.

The silicone could be the problem. Go with an O2 compatible grease.

Whistling seems to be a problem peculiar to balanced piston designs. I've had it happen to me with several SP 1st stages, notably the Mk 20 and 25s. I don't know if I've ever had an Atomic first stage do it, but I'm sure it is quite capable of doing it.

Adequate lubrication of the HP o-ring and piston shaft seems to be the the fix and it works quite well. DAAquamaster is correct in being liberal with the grease there. So am I.

Wanna hear something weird? Dive one of the Aeris or Oceanic DVT first stages and listen to the air whistling in from the tank to the first stage. It's eerie! Takes some getting used to, too. Because of the design of the DVT plug and spring behind it, there is always a slight lag between the rate of air depletion when you breathe on the reg and the rate of replenishment from the tank. Ergo, you can hear the air pressure equalizing in the first stage with every breath you take.
