I was hoping to get some input from you guys. I know that the MK17 is the first stage of choice for cold water divers. That being said, my question is this...
Should I worry about diving my MK11/c300 in temps below 50 degrees F? I have dove it at 48-49 twice, with no problems whatsoever. I doubt seriously if I will ever dive it in less than 45 degrees. I know that the SP manual states that all SP regulators are certified to be used in cold water in accordance with EN 250: 2000, this meaning they have been tested at temps of 39F.

I also find it confusing that SP's site and every product description I've come across states that the MK11 has "anti-freeze protection" and a "dry chamber," but according to SP's regulator comparison chart, the MK11 does not have either of these. Based on what I have read, I believe the MK11 to be quite capable of functioning reliably at temps in the 45-50 degree range, but I thought I would see what others think.

Anyone's experiences diving the MK11 in colder waters would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
Tony

I have used my MK11 several times in 43 to 45 degree water. If you are concerned lower the intermediate pressure to 135-140 psig.

Thanks, guys...for the comments and suggestions.

The Mk11 does have anti-freeze protection in a coating on the main spring that deters ice formation. The other form of anti-freeze protection is that the working components of the first stage are sealed away from the water inside the first stage. We do appreciate the notice about the inaccuracy on the website. This is being corrected currently.

Thank you, Jules...for the quick response and for clearing that up.

I have a pair of Mk11/C300's that my wife and I have dove in 45° saltwater on several occasions and had zero issues with either. They are for sale if anyone is interested. I got a super deal on a pair of Mk25/S600's that I just could not pass up. I told my wife I would put them up for sale to help in recouping the cost of the new reg's.
