Could have easily gotten NARC'd.

No matter what, it is a sad loss of life. :(

I, frankly, don't accept that only a down current took the life of a "expert" DM. I have been in a whole bunch of down currents since 1992 (especially this time of year) and it is a pretty simple thing to deal with if you are prepared. I also hope that all DMs will include solutions to this in their dive briefings, but maybe not. Perhaps we ought to have a thread about that on this forum.

I agree!
That's a scary thought. Have been in a down current we were all experienced Cozumel die hards. But the DM barely talked to us. BTW, our dive master was so far ahead. Of us we almost lost visuals of him. Again that dive shop folded.

What classes can you offer to my boys to asssure this does not happen to them Would you also have any ideas for a quite place to stay no all inclusive, not so close to town? Great views? Maybe even a pool? I have got a few suggestions but nothing we're interested in. Also I heard crime is up and want a safe place. Thanks for you input. Abby
