Volunteers from Marine Rescue Eden have been stood down from a multi-agency search for a missing diver off Lennards Island on the far South Coast.

Marine Rescue NSW Inspector Glenn Sullivan said the Eden unit was called to assist NSW Water Police and rescue helicopters earlier this afternoon.

“Marine Rescue NSW vessel XRAY 30 was deployed to assist with the search after the diver was reported missing around 3.30pm.

“At 5.40pm the Marine Rescue NSW crew was stood down for the day because of poor light.

“The XRAY 30 crew responded quickly and professionally this afternoon,” Inspector Sullivan said.

XRAY 30 will be back on the water tomorrow morning along with Merimbula 31 when the search resumes

“Marine Rescue NSW crews from Eden and Merimbula have been confirmed and they are prepared for a full day search tomorrow,” Inspector Sullivan said.

Marine Rescue NSW is a volunteer based not-for-profit professional organisation dedicated to keeping boaters safe on the water and supporting local communities.

A search has resumed for a diver missing in waters near Eden in New South Wales.
The diver was swimming off Lennards Island, Eden about 3.30pm yesterday when they got into difficulty.
Marine Rescue NSW crew resumed the search about 8am after it was called off 5.40pm last night due to poor light.

Freediving at 6C water? Brrr.
"The sea temperature currently sits at 16.3 degrees, and the rescued man was wearing a long-sleeve, long-legged wetsuit." 16.3C = 61.34F. Still, it's good that he made it to an island for the night.

Thanks! Hard to tell from the newscaster's voice, whether she said six or sixteen.
