Diver missing in Tasmania found on rocks, cold but safe - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
A Tasmanian scuba diver has been found alive and well after a six-hour rescue effort.
The man was reported missing this afternoon, when he failed to re-surface from a dive near Waterhouse Island.
His companion raised the alarm after the man was submerged for more than the 45 minutes of air he had left in his tank.
Police said he was found by a rescue boat about 8pm (AEDT) on rocks near the island.
Inspector Darren Hopkins said he was uninjured but showed signs of hypothermia.
He was taken to nearby Bridport to be reunited with family.
Inspector Hopkins said the man's family were overcome with emotion when they heard he had been found.
"It's sort of been tears of joy flying here at Bridport station, so the whole family are delighted that he's safe and well," he said.
"They were expecting the worst and the result has been the best, so it's good news."
Six boats, including three police boats, and three helicopters have been involved in the search.
Search teams had also used quad bikes and walked the coastline with torches.
