VOA is for all (or at least most) international airports. I know Jakarta and Manado is on the list together with Bali now (since April 6th)

The visa on arrival is available in Jakarta. And can be extended. The B211 still has some challenges in terms of the application process. Remember the entry requirements are changing weekly for every country. For example you can now enter Costa Rica with no test, no vaccination and no insurance. And Bonaire has also reduced entry requirements.

I am trying to get two divers to Indonesia on short notice for 2 resort stays and a liveaboard and we are finding the requirements a bit onerous. Compared to several other destinations it seems that Indonesia may not be as "open" as they say they are. Airline transits are a challenge from the US and there are some requirements for transits in Germany, Turkey and other transit airports.

What special requirements for Germany and Turkey? I haven’t heard anything about this? Is it German rules?
We just flew with Turkish Airlines via Istanbul to Dubai and since Dubai does not require a negative PCR all we needed to show was our vaccination certificate.

But but but . . .we want to be there

Germany and Turkey, minor hoops

Indonesia? Not so easy.

The Indonesia issue. Trip requires significant planning, is pricey, has 48-hour PCT test requirement. Positive on the 48-hour PCR test = not travel, resort(s) keep your money, travel costs subject to various refund policies, which may not be acceptable to the travler.

The issue with our group? Prior positive COVID result for folks that continue to test positive on the PCR test, long after they have recovered.

Example -
  • Positive COVID PCR test in January 2022
    • PCR Test March 2, positive
    • PCR Test March 27, posiitve
Travel scheduled for Wednesday, Apirl 20, 2022 requires negative PCR test taken after 13:26 local time on Monday, April 28, 2022
  • County COVID test site now open M-W-F, 9-1:30
    • same day results - maybe, no gurantee

How long do you test positive after having had COVID-19?
"Because the PCR test is so sensitive, it can detect very small amounts of virus material. This means that the test can continue to detect fragments of SARS-CoV-2 virus even after you’ve recovered from COVID-19 and are no longer contagious. So you may continue to test positive if you've had COVID-19 in the distant past, even though you can’t spread the SARS- CoV-2 virus to others."

Clinical Guidance for Recovered/Previously Positive COVID-19 Patients

"Research shows many individuals who recover from COVID-19 may continue testing positive for the virus for weeks to months, despite no longer being contagious. We have seen this phenomenon in our own patients and employees <<>>"

A lot of countries require a negative PCR and only have a short “recovery” period.

I was lucky and tested positive on Jan 25 and negative on Feb 7. Some people are not that lucky …

And Indonesia apparently do allow entry with recovery pass, but I’m not sure about this long after first infection.

Also no testing or quarantine on arrival.
