Brother and I did two @ Pebble Beach yesterday. Parking was no problem. 56F @ depth(max 26fsw), good viz, only a little current/surge, not too many other divers and the usual suspects for marine life. However, we did see one big(just over 5") and two huge lobzillas. One was the biggest lobster I've ever see under water. Great day under the water.

I'm curious if anybody knows if lobsters that size are territorial, if they stay in the same hole for years or do they migrate around? I was under the impression that lobsters migrated to deeper water, but this one huge 'zilla looked like he'd been in his hole for a while(the exterior was swept clean and flat of any debris/seaweed). Maybe he's just a good housekeeper. I coaxed him out of his hole and my brother picked him up...wish we had a camera!

They migrate to deeper water in the colder months. Lobsters are very fast diggers. They are territorial so he may not move for some time and may even come back to the same rock another time. Ususally large holes equal large lobsters so you may see a large lobster under the same rock year after year and it may not be the same lobster. Gotta figure what ever lobster 1 liked about that hole lobster 2 will also find acceptable.
