My partner and I are looking at spending a week in Egypt towards the end of October. I’ve been out of diving for a couple of years due to some health issues so thinking a shorter 3/4d liveaboard plus few days of land-based activities is a good way to ease back into it.

Preference would be for a wrecks focused trip. Happy to pay a premium for a nicer boat with a good safety record. We’re both AOW with 80-100 dives.

The alternative is a land-based trip but my research suggests that would involve some long boat rides out to the best wrecks.

Any recommendations?

It sounds like the wrecks at Abu Nuhas should be at the top of your list. You might be able to dive the Thistlegorm while at it.

From Sharm El Sheikh, Umbi Diving and Snefro Fleet both offer short liveabord trips that will get you there. Umbi is good value for money, in my opinion, and we had a good experience with them. I have no personal experience of Snefro, but they have been in business for a long time.

I believe there are at least a couple of boats going to Abu Nuhas from Hurghada, but their names escape me now. A quick search on liveaboard.com should do the trick. Just click the "less than a week" option.

Happy diving!
