Beside Alor my next destination planned this autum is Milne Bay or another dive spot in PNG. After Ambon , Lembeh , RA, North and South Molucca, Flores , Bali and Sulawesi is this area worth the long way to get there ? Has anybody done some surface program in NPG ? ( We always like to combine diving with some new culture and scenery impressions )

I might give you an answer in a few months (except for the landside aspect) . :)

That would be nice . Enjoy the trip !!

I believe Milne Bay is in PNG and has nothing to do with Indonesia.
The Royal Highland Show in Goroka is not to be missed. I also enjoyed the trek on Mt. Wilhelm(the name probably mean something to German). And you might heard the Kokoda trek.
There are a lot of very interesting land tours unfortunately as in everything relates to tourism in the country; expensive.
Get a "bus" from Wewak to Angoram and explore the mighty Sepik River. Quality wood carving is available but is it allow to bring back to Germany?

I posted my request under Indonesia because as a neighbor country ( with even a land border ) ,I thought there might be the one ore other of this very active comunity here, who has some experience there. How did you find the safety situation travelling in PNG ? Port Moresby is obviously to be avoided, but having read this thread, I got some doubts about going there at all.

Hold-up at Tawali

Otherwise the things you pointed out - beside the bus ?? were already on my list. Unfortunatly the festivals in the highlands all are during summer . Only the Kenu and Kundu canoe festival in Alotau is in November. And yes ,I rather only take picture back home to avoid hassel at the custom.
