While at our summer home on the south coast of Newfoundland this summer ( July 7 though Aug. 26)
We when diving in a bay close to our home and where surprised to see thousand if not millions of Jellys.
The dive was shallow we surface swam and noticed a lot of jellys but when we descended to 20 ft. the entire surface was covered with them the vis was about 100 ft and for as far as we could see was jellys above us we assended to check out the mass,we were surrounded. Unfortunately we were out that day on our first dive this year, we were going to collect mussels and did not bring a camera
from what we could see 4 different types some I've never seen before.
After the dive we talked to the Locals as well as our family in the area and the old folks said they've never seen this many jelly fish in the south coast in all their lives . fishermen told us its never been like this before , their nets were even being fouled by the great numbers of them.
A week later we returned to the bay for another look, well the sea had changed the vis was crappy 20 ft or so and the massive numbers of jellys were gone !! there were still a lot of them & we did get some picture but missed our chance to photo the sight that will for ever be in our memories.
Any one have ideas why the jelly fish were in such numbers this year and why in the south coast of Newfoundland?
