I was at Millbrook both Saturday and Sunday this weekend (Sept 8th/9th, 2007). Saturday was the demo day (see my other thread about that "Kudos Halcyon and VA Scuba"). It was pretty empty both days. Visability was pretty bad both days (about 8 feet or so). The surface temp was warm but it was effin cold at about 30 feet. I'm still figuring out my computer and don't know how to get the actual temperature yet, sorry. So, it was typical millbrook I suppose. I'm going to Rawlings next weekend, and that should be better.

Anyone else dive this weekend?

I dove in the pool at the YMCA if that counts, I needed to check out some equipment. Vis was great!

No yellow clouds, warm or otherwise. I used the indoor pool and there was only a handful of people in it. All the swimmers in were in the outdoor pool.

If you go to Rawlings, do it during the week. The weekend (sunday) the viz at times was worse than Millbrook on a bad day.

Yup, I did. ;) And in the drysuit I didn't think it was THAT cold at 30 ft........ :eyebrow:

FYI, my computer says "70 degrees" for the temperature. Though I wouldn't put too much stock in that. My experience with such instruments is that even when kept in a constant temperature, it takes several minutes for them to reach it. If you move frequently between temperatures (i.e. going to the surface to 30ft and back several times during a dive in Millbrook) you won't get an accurate reading of the lowest temperature you had.

But the vis was bad, one of the worst days I've seen there. And I was there about two weeks ago when the vis was 2-3 times better.

Unfortunately I have to go during the weekend because that is when the meetup group is going. I hope its better than millbrook. I think I am going to rawlings one week day this season though.

I was at the 'brook on Sunday. I got about 70-75 at the surface, but at 65 it went to 57. It was my buddy's first time diving cold, so we didnt stay that deep too long! Also, we dove off beach 1 for the second dive and we were looking for the shallow boat...never found it, anyone got a heading?

On a side note, we got hungry between dives, went to sheetz in our 7 mils and a tshirt...got a lot of looks! :)

What time were you there? I parked at beach one as well. Was there from about 10:30 am to 4:30 or so.

Well,
I got blown outta NC, so ended up helping a student through his advanced certs. We dove Fisherville (down by Harrisonburg, VA). I had 30 ft vis until 75 ftfw, then it looked like night. Not quite the Schurz :-( Oh well, we have a trip to Morehead on the first weekend of October, and that is Seafood Fest!
