I switched over all my hoses to MiFlex a few weeks ago and really like them, no complaints... until....

So I go diving this past weekend and leave my gear in my jeep without rinsing overnight. I was just beat.

The hoses really seem to hold an odor. Much more than a smooth rubber hose. The entire reg rig needed multiple dunks in fresh water/ enzyme solution to clean out the funk. I have soaked everything back in warm water and now they are drying. I wasnt prepared for that.

I guess I'll have to be more diligent on the rinsing.

... ummm... gotta' ask, did you have anything "else" in there that might have transfured the oder... and... what kind of water were you diving in? (Could the weave be a 'holding area' for bactrial evolution?)

Thanks for the post... my wife just put some MiFlex hoses on her rig... we'll keep an eye on them...

Not noticed any odour on mine and ive left them to fester for days in the car a few times.
The rest of my gear stinks and starts to go mouldy after that time though. Im wondering if its whats been suggested above - the weave area can trap water and provided a nice area for any other bacteria to grow.

I have found some salty sand and maybe even a little aquatic plant life residue embedded in the Miflex hose weaving after diving in the ocean. Since Miflex hoses are not slick and smooth like rubber hoses, I can see how foreign objects can become embedded.

When I soak my reg set, I now fill the bucket high enough with slightly warm water to cover the hoses so they get a good soaking as well. I do this after I have sprayed them off thoroughly with a hose. I have heard through some verbal advertising that the weave is so tight that salt, etc. cannot build up on these hoses, but my firsthand experience has shown me that I have to pay a little more attention to them when it comes to maintenance.

With this said, I have switched all of my hoses to Miflex, and the advantages far outweigh the minor disadvantages so far.

So last week it was fresh water in a quarry, but there was quite a bit of algae. This weekend it was in Monterey in salt water. (we did end up going through some decomposing kelp foam and some unknown spawning fluid underwater)

My drysuit smells just a little (its cordura and highly textured), but not even close compared to the raunchy smell coming from the MiFlex.

BTW, I still have my old hoses, but I like the MiFlex so much I wont switch them back. I just wanted to post to see if anyone else noticed this issue.

The hoses are dry tonight and they dont smell after my rinsing and dunking in enzyme cleaner.

I am starting the use Miflex hoses. Could I ask which enzyme cleaner you find effective?

Hmmm...I dive with mine both Sat and Sun nearly every weekend. Fresh or saltwater. Gear never gets rinsed after Saturday's dives, and after Sunday often doesn't get rinsed until Mon or Tues. Never had a problem.

I notice XS Scuba (who makes/distributes) the hoses is listed in the "Ask the Manufacturer's Forum"... ya' might ask them if they've run into this before or if they have any idea of what's happening....
