Hi,

I require a new isolation & post valves for my doubles. I used to have SP, but have the opportunity to try Midlands. However I am unfamiliar with the brand and would appreciate any feedback comparison. As far as I know they are barrel sealed o-ring units and not face sealed.

I think you are referring to Midland Diving Equipment (MDE) valves.

There are two different types of MDE valves. The older type were made in England and have face o-rings. They are very well made and operate smootly and with minimal effort. I have a set on my twins and am very happy with them. About a year ago MDE released a new version. They are made in Italy by the same factory that makes valves and manifolds for several other retailers. They have barrel o-rings but are not as well made and finished as the older version, nor do they operate as easily.

So you can either have well engineered valves that operate easily under all circumstances, or you can have DIR compliant valves

:)

Druid,

Thanks for your feedback. Yes, I was referring to MDE valves. The set I can get are the barrel sealed units, and turns very well. However, they only fit 12litre tanks. I have 15's(faber) and need to look at other options. Can you recommend any other "performance" valves I can use with my doubles?

I use a Thermo 300-Bar manifold on my HP100 doubles, and have an OMS manifold (with face o-rings) that I took off of my LP95 doubles and I'm about to make a set of AL80 dubs with them. I can't speak for the OMS (yet) but I love my Thermo manifold even more than the Halcyon manifold on the doubles I used in my Fundies class.

Peace,
Greg

Thanks, will check them out.

They are modular valves, so you can change the manifold for a longer one to use with 15s. However, the barrel o-ring type is not as good as the older ones, so if I wanted "performance" I would look at Halcyon or Agir
