My adult son and I are doing an all inclusive resort trip in Rivera Maya and are booked with Pro Dive International as they are at the resort; early April. Our only other trip was the one I won to Anthony Key Resort in Roatan in 2019. My son is OW with 23 dives 13 in Canada, 10 tropical. I’m a PADI Master Diver and SDI Solo diver; 150 OW dives, all but 10 are in Canada, lakes, rivers and North Atlantic. Any key things to know for this area and the dive op? Bringing our own gear.

the riviera maya is a big area. can you tell us which resort you will be staying at pls

ok so you will be in puerto adventura. i have never stayed in that area. it is south of playa del carmen. maybe an hr from the cancun airport.
not sure if there is a natural beach there. let us know how you enjoy that property. it is in a nice area for sure. even has a little golf course there.
you will be close to the cenotes if that interests you at all. if not for diving, it still would be cool to visit one and maybe go swimming etc.
tulum is not far so a visit to the ruins might be an idea. we went once. it was interesting. just fyi.....if you decide to walk from the ruins down to the beach there, it is a bit of a hump.
akumal is even closer than tulum. we spent a day there once. beautiful beach there. saw some turtles while snorkeling along shore (no we didnt pay to join the guided tour like they try to tell you is mandatory). that might be a nice day trip especially if it turns out your resort doesnt have much of a beach.
pretty sure we used pro dive once but that would have been many years ago so would not be relevant. i believe they include free nitrox if you have that cert.
they would offer a cozumel trip i am sure, but i would assume you would have to take the ferry over etc so it would be a long day if you decided to do that.
we usually stay in playa del carmen. on our first visit to that area we stayed north of town at an AI. once we saw the town, we decided to stay in town from then on.
