Tonight my son was stopped by Mexican customs and advised that he could not take filled tanks
into Mexico. We have a home in Rocky Point (Puerto Penasco) and travel every month to dive and
fish. This is the first time we have heard of this and everyone should be aware of it. The option was to
evacuate the tanks and fill them in Rocky Point. We rented some storage on the American and will hope
to be able to rent tanks, with Mexican air or course...

It would be hard to tell what was in them, wouldn't it? I heard a story from a customs guy about a propane powered truck coming the other way. Only half the propane tank had propane.

They probably want to be able to inspect the inside of the tanks to ensure that nothing illegal is coming into Mexico. I don't know if the Mexican crossing station at Lukeville has x-ray equipment or not. It's a bummer that he got red-lighted at the crossing and they spotted the tanks.

There are a couple of dive shops operating in RP presently. Rocky Point Scuba Dive is in the Old Port behind the Boobar. It has tanks and a compressor. The other shop is at the Sonoran Sea Resort on Sandy Beach. I haven't been over there to see what they have in the way of tanks and/or a compressor.-AZTinman
