MetroWest Dive Club Announces Speakers for Wrecks Symposium Nov. 8, 2008!
FRAMINGHAM, MA The MetroWest Dive Club (MWDC), a nonprofit organization
dedicated to promoting fun, safe SCUBA diving, has announced the speakers for its
highly popular Wrecks Symposium:
Capt. Heather Knowles & Capt. David Caldwell: Halifax Shipwrecks
Join Heather and Dave as they discuss their dives to some of the many vessels -
both deep and shallow - off Halifax such as the British Freedom, Kolkhosnik,
Kaaparen, Letitia, Daniel Steinman and others, as well as the logistical challenges
they faced in organizing a deep, mixed gas expedition in an area not well
supported for technical diving.
Dan Crowell: USS Oriskany
Join Dan as he shares some of his amazing video of one of the largest artificial
reefs in the world- The USS Oriskany. The massive aircraft carrier rests in 212
feet of water and an overall height of 151 feet. There is plenty of ship to view
within recreational dive limits and even more for those willing to take on a more
challenging adventure into labyrinth of decks and companion ways.
Gary Gentile: North Carolina Shipwrecks
A tour of this Gulf Stream state shows diving at its best: warm water, fantastic
visibility, shipwrecks galore, colorful tropical fish, and luxuriant corals. See the
lovely and mysterious octopus, and experience a sand tiger shark bite the
photographer's lens. Visit the wrecks of two world wars, and be there when the
author finds and recovers the bell that positively identified the Manuela.
Vinnie Kralyevich: Deep Sea Detectives Bloopers
Join Vinnie Kralyevich, former Producer of History Channel's "Deep Sea
Detectives" as he discusses his experience on going from non diver to diver along
with the bloopers and outtakes from the show. Most of the clips will feature John
Chatterton, Michael Norwood and Richie Kohler.
David Ulloa: USS Monitor
The Monitor, our nations first Monitor National Marine Sanctuary, rests on the
ocean floor off North Carolina's Outer Banks at a depth of 240 feet. Join David as
he takes you on a guided video tour of this historical ship and its magnificent
artifacts. Youll also hear countless behind the scenes stories of what it is like to
conduct technical dives in the fabled Graveyard of the Atlantic.
Our goal for this years Wrecks was to have a first-class set of speakers and topics, and I really think weve accomplished that goal. said Jeff Wagner, VP of MWDC. We want this to be one of the best Wrecks shows yet.
