Hello All,

I was just wondering what the various methods that folks use for tying on a wreck reel. I used to use a clip where I would make about three of four coils around whatever I am tying on to and then clip the end of the line to itself. Lately I have been using the method that employs a large loop at the end of the line, make a few coils around the object tying into and then put the reel itself through the loop. I still keep a clip at the end of the loop as I find it makes it easier to loosen up the loop at the end of the dive. I was just wondering if there is any various scools of thought on this as I have had conversations with a number of divers lately on this subject and there seems to be a lot of variation in what some folks call "the right way" to do it.

Thank you all. Safe and Happy Diving!!

You've just described the only two methods I've used/seen. I suppose a clip could fail making the loop method a little more reliable. Of course the knot in your loop could give way, but if your pulling on it that much you've probably been swallowed by a whale.

Reel trough the loop around the object about 3 times with a secondary tie off not too far from the 1st, no clips.
