Actually, it can be some times confusing since the early Scubapro regulator designation like the original Mk-5 did include the second stage as part of the package.

The Mk-5, Mk-1, Mk-6, and Mk-7 came exclusively with the adjustable second stage in the early 70’s. The Mk-2 and Mk-3 came exclusively with the basic down stream first stage.

Since no one used octopus (alternate seconds) the second stages where not sold separately…except as spare parts. If I recall correctly the 109 designation was just the spare part number. I would have to look at my old parts list.

I can’t think of any other adjustable metal second stage, except for the Kirby Morgan modified US Divers second stage available on the KBM 8 and 9 band masks (as well as the newer band masks). It seems that the introduction of plastic caught on quicker than the adjustable feature.

Edit: in paragraph two I wrote "balanced adjustable", I meant just adjustable (not balanced)...it was early...

Kirby Morgan makes a metal scuba 2nd stage that has an adjustable cracking pressure knob.

I believe the G250v has a metal adjustment.

Were Scubapro really that far ahead of eveyone else when they released the 109 & then the 156?

Yes...back then they were....by about two decades...

But sadly the bottom line took them in the wrong direction.:shakehead:

It's a bit ironic as a twenty five year old Balanced Adjustable offers as much performance as any current high end second stage and in some respects offers more (increased durabulity, less dry mouth, better heat transfer, etc).
