We dove with Mestizo Divers in April 2010 and we loved it. He has a great boat and everything was customized for us - no more than six divers. I gave Freddy a tall order of what I wanted to see with with a wink and he ran with it. Even though the eagle ray "season" was past he asked if we were willing to take a chance just to check...I drained my tank because I was so excited to see not one, but four. Our whole week went fabulously and every dive was better than the one before it. We will definitely be going back and would not even consider diving with anyone else.
To further illustrate the point...at the last minute one day we decided to go on a night dive and ended up choosing the dive op at our hotel out of convenience. The "cattle boat" had about 12 of us and it ended up being a terrible dive. The current was so fast and there were so many of us it was nearly impossible to keep from constantly bumping into other divers. Because we had to stick together due to all the other groups dropping in the water we ended up having to constantly wait for two guys taking pictures. Finning into that current was really awful and cut my dive way short. I guess the good thing was that we had more appreciation for how good we had it during the day. If you want small, personalized outstanding service you can't go wrong with Freddy at Mestizo Divers.

Just FYI: Both the legal ratio and the PADI ratio of DM's to divers is 1/8.

I had a chance to see Freddy this afternoon and it was great to catch up. I can't wait to come back to Cozumel next year to dive with him when I have a smaller group. He's got one of the nicest fast boats I've dived on in Cozumel and he is the ultimate pro. Everyone I refer to him comes back with rave reviews. You are so right...you can't go wrong with Mestizo Divers.

If thats the case then I'm glad I found Freddy cause the other shops I dove with the minimum with a dive master was no less then 8, usually 10 to 12. Done with cattle boats, but hey if you carried a camera the dive master spent the time finding stuff for you to shoot. But then again I don't like being one of the people in the line zooming over the reef not seeing the little critters. I know dive ops are different, and there are many that are good. I am confortable with Freddy, and so that is why I go back to him.
