Whats' the advantage/disadvantage to having the water contact set to off vs. having it set to on?

I believe it still logs dives over 6 feet when set to off.

Having the water contact on the Meridian set to "off" keeps it from going into the 'diving' mode when showering or in very high humidity/sweating. Water pressure then sets it to dive mode.

Hello. I have just bought the Meridian. I have done one dive today. It is flashing lights the mountain symbol. I have not left the beach. Is there something wrong, does it dissappear after awhile?
Thanks
